CS2 competitive scene mid-2025 — thriving or falling behind?

Been watching a lot of CS2 lately, and I’m kinda torn. The game looks cleaner than ever, but some of the hype feels gone compared to CS:GO days. What’s your take — is CS2 holding up as a top-tier esport, or are we slowly watching it slip behind Valorant and Apex?

I’ve had the same thought lately. Like yeah, the graphics and engine are smooth now, and they finally fixed the hit reg issues.
But viewership is dipping in some regions. Just look at the recent Blast numbers — way lower than expected. For a general idea, HLTV still tracks all the tourneys: https://www.hltv.org/
It’s still the go-to for rankings and match info.

It’s a weird moment for CS2 for sure. The mechanics are solid now, but the “soul” of the game feels… different? Might just be nostalgia tho. Also let’s be real — Valorant’s franchising model made it easier for casual fans to follow. CS2 still feels like Wild West in terms of orgs and scene structure.

True, and the lack of consistent personalities in CS2 doesn’t help. Back in the day you had s1mple, dev1ce, olof… now it’s harder to build that same fan connection. Also shoutout to HLTV — still carrying the CS community on its back :D

Also depends where you’re watching from. EU events still feel hype af. NA scene feels… cooked? :) Btw, if any of you like collecting digital merch or CSGO-style cases, I came across this https://sweepstakescasinos.co.uk/promo-codes/ thing that does weekly draws. Got a knife skin code last month, wasn’t expecting it to be real lol.

Yo I think I saw that one in a Discord server. I skipped it but now I’m second guessing. Skins economy is low-key keeping this game alive anyway.

Yeah fr, skins and betting have weirdly kept the scene breathing. But honestly, if Valve supported the pro circuit more directly, CS2 would be dominating. Let’s see what happens with the Major next month — could be a turning point.

100%. If they botch the Major, Valorant’s gonna eat even more of the scene. Fingers crossed. Still love this game too much to see it fade.
